Travel Tips
Travelling by rail in Malaysia can be a comfortable, efficient, and scenic way to explore the country. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your rail travel experience:
Go Cashless, Seamless Ticket Booking
Book your ETS and KTM Intercity tickets in advance, especially during holidays and peak seasons. Tickets can be purchased through the KTMB Mobile app or KITS Ticketing.
Check the schedule via MyRailTime
Check your train schedule online through the MyRailtime via the KTMB Mobile application.
Arrive Early
Arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before departure.
Luggage
Travel light is limited, as space for large luggage is limited. Most trains have overhead racks for smaller bags and designated areas for more oversized items.
On the Train Comfort and Safety
For longer journeys, bring a travel pillow, blanket, or shawl. Keep your valuables secure and within sight.
Food and Drink
Indulge in our onboard café aboard ETS, KTM Intercity, and DMU trains, offering reasonably priced meals that are all Halal certified.
Facilities on Board
Our trains offer features tailored for disabled passengers, like wider doors, wheelchair areas, and accessible toilets. Surau facilities are also onboard ETS and DMU trains.
Entertainment
You can carry a book, download movies or music, or keep a travel journal. On certain ETS Business Class trains, you can enjoy onboard entertainment, and some trains are equipped with power sockets.
Go for Window Seats
Opt for window seats whenever possible for stunning views of landscapes, especially on routes like Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh or the Jungle Railway from Gemas to Tumpat. Enjoy the spectacular vistas of dense rainforests and rural landscapes.
Connectivity
Plan your onward travel from the train station. Main stations like KL Sentral are well-connected with local transport options such as buses, taxis, and ride-sharing services.
Station Staff
Don’t hesitate to ask the station staff for assistance. They can help with directions, ticket issues, and other inquiries.
By following these tips, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable rail journey through Malaysia, experiencing the country’s diverse regions and rich culture uniquely and leisurely.
